Save the date: National Play Day Cardiff 2025
10/7/25

Families across Cardiff are invited to join in this year’s National Play Day 2025 celebration in August.

This year’s free event will be held at Eastern Leisure Centre playing fields on Wednesday August 6, 1 – 4pm and the theme is Spaces for Play.

National Play Day is celebrated each year across the UK on the first Wednesday in August. This year’s theme highlights the vital importance of accessible, inclusive spaces where children and young people have opportunities to play freely, spending time, and connecting with friends – and feel valued as part of their community.

Organised by the Council’s Play Services team within Children’s Services in partnership with other council teams and community partners, visitors to the event can expect an afternoon packed with messy, creative and active play experiences for all ages.

A council spokesperson said: “National Play Day is a celebration of childhood and the power of play. It’s a chance for families to come together, explore creativity, and enjoy the freedom of play in a safe, welcoming space.

“Events like this remind us that play isn’t just fun—it’s essential for children’s development, wellbeing and sense of belonging. We invite all families to join us for a fun afternoon of connection, laughter, and discovery."

Families are encouraged to use active travel—such as walking, cycling, or public transport—to get to National Play Day at Eastern Leisure Centre fields, to help reduce traffic and support a cleaner, greener Cardiff.

The venue is easily accessible via local walking and cycling routes, and bike parking will be available on site.  For public transport options visit Traveline Cymru - Journey Planning Wales
