Lansdowne Primary School in Canton has been found to provide a nurturing and inclusive environment where pupils feel valued and supported.

During a recent inspection by Estyn, the Education Inspectorate for Wales, the school was recognised for its welcoming, inclusive and positive atmosphere, where strong relationships between staff and pupils contribute to a supportive learning environment.

The school was found to offer a diverse curriculum that helps pupils grow in confidence and make good progress in their learning and overall development. The report highlights the priority given to pupils' well-being, providing strong support to help them manage their emotions and stay engaged in their education.

Reading was found to be a notable strength, with younger pupils developing a secure understanding of phonics and older pupils demonstrating strong comprehension and critical thinking skills. The school also excels in promoting effective communication skills across all year groups.

The provision for pupils with ALN is highly effective, with the school-based specialist provision offering valuable support to meet pupils' specific needs.

A positive report, Estyn has made three recommendations which the school will address in its action plan. These include

-         Improving the teaching of mathematics and providing more opportunities for pupils to apply their numeracy skills in real-life contexts.

-         Providing more opportunities for pupils to respond to feedback and influence their learning.

-         Addressing the level of persistent absence to ensure all pupils benefit fully from their education.

Lansdowne Primary School Headteacher Michelle Jones said:"I am delighted that the report highlights the many strengths of our school, as well as the commitment and dedication of our staff, pupils, parents, and governors.

"Together, we work tirelessly to make a difference and ensure our pupils make meaningful progress in an inclusive and diverse environment, where well-being and relationships are at the heart of everything we do. We will continue to strive to do our best, ensuring that we meet the needs of all our learners and build on the positives identified in our report."

Cabinet Member for Education, Cllr Sarah Merry said: "The school should feel proud of the positive feedback from Estyn's inspection which shines a light on the dedicated staff, supportive parents, and enthusiastic pupils who have all contributed to creating a vibrant and inclusive school community.

"The school clearly remains focused on fostering a love of learning, promoting well-being, and ensuring every pupil has the opportunity to succeed and will be supported by the Local Authority to address the recommendations and continue to improve provision for all pupils."
