Travel advice for Wales vs Ireland on 22 February in Cardiff

Wales will be taking on Ireland on Saturday 22 February at Principality Stadium.

With the kick-off taking place at 2.15pm - there will be a full city centre road closure from 10.15am until 5.45pm to ensure all ticket holders can get into and out of the stadium safely.

The M4 motorway is expected to be very busy due to this rugby match - so please plan ahead - and avoid the congestion in Cardiff by using the park & ride at the former Toy's R Us site car park in the Sports Village - CF11 0JS.

For up to date traffic information on the motorway and trunk roads go to the  Traffic Wales website, or @TrafficWalesS on Twitter and Facebook.

Gates open at 12.15pm, those attending the rugby match are strongly advised to plan their journey and get in early.  Please pay attention to the prohibited items listed at  principalitystadium.wales, in particular the bag policy (no large bags permitted) before travelling into the city.

Bike scheme helping children in low-income families choose active travel to get to school

Children in low-income families in Cardiff are benefitting from a new scheme providing free, recycled bikes.

The ReCYCLE scheme forms part of Council's One Planet Cardiff response to climate change and aims to enable more children to use active travel to get to and from school by overcoming the cost barrier of buying a bike.

The donated bikes used in the scheme are all no longer needed by their original owners, but instead of going to waste they are refurbished with recycled parts, ready to be used again.

Since launching in September 2024, 72 pupils have received a bike through the scheme. All pupils are also provided with a helmet, bike lock, pump, basic cycle maintenance training, and cycle training.

Council grants help Cardiff taxi drivers cut emissions

Get a taxi in Cardiff today and your trip could now be cleaner and greener due to a Cardiff Council scheme which has provided more than £200,000 of grants to enable the city's taxi drivers to upgrade to more fuel efficient or fully electric vehicles.

Every year the average full-time taxi driver in the UK clocks up anything from 25,000 to 45,000 miles of driving1 - significantly more than the approximately 7,500 miles2 the average UK driver covers. Cardiff's Hackney Carriage fleet consists of many older, Euro 4 and Euro 5 diesel vehicles, meaning much of that mileage has a negative impact on the planet, and local air quality.

Ranging from £5,000 - £10,000 per vehicle, the grants support drivers to purchase more modern and fuel-efficient Euro 6 vehicles as well as fully electric vehicles.

The grants form part of the Council's One Planet Cardiff response to climate change which has seen a new solar farm delivered, 100,000 new trees planted, low-carbon energy efficient council housing built, and a growing network of segregated cycleways installed, alongside a wide range of other projects and initiatives.

Have Your Say - Two Week Engagement on Secure Cycle Parking Starts Today

A two-week engagement exercise has started - asking all cyclists for their views on secure cycle parking in the city.

The online survey asks cyclists for their views on different solutions and potential charges for secure parking options. To take part click here:
www.cardiff.gov.uk/securecycleparking

The new scheme will focus on the City Centre, Cathays, Grangetown and Cardiff Bay in the first instance, but is intended to grow from the city centre, outwards, into district shopping areas across Cardiff.

The online survey will close on March 3rd, to ensure that all necessary steps can be taken to install the first phase of the scheme during Summer 2025.
