Olympic Success for Llanishen High School Alumni

An impressive four former pupils from Llanishen High School in Cardiff return from Paris as Olympians and medal winners.

Track cyclist Elinor Barkerwon Olympic silver for Great Britain in the women's Madison and returned to the podium to be awarded bronze alongside Anna Morris as part of the GB quartet in the women's team pursuit, with another former pupil, Megan Barker as reserve.

Elinor now becomes the first Welsh woman to win four Olympic medals.

In athletics, Jeremiah Azu ran the first the first leg of the 4x100 metre relay and took bronze boasting three Olympic medals for the former Cardiff pupils in Paris.

Llanishen High School Headteacher Sarah Parry, paid tribute to the famous four: "We are in absolute awe of their achievements and are incredibly proud.

"They are an inspiration to our whole school community and we cannot wait to welcome Elinor, Anna, Megan and Jeremiah back to the school to further inspire the next generation.

"Congratulations to them all and much love to their families and support networks for the immeasurable amount of graft that sits behind these achievements."

Cardiff's Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Education added: "I have been truly amazed by the accomplishments of these individuals and share the pride of the school. They are an inspiration to young people across the city and are proof that through hard work and commitment, anything can be achieved."
