More
than 1,200 staff – the majority council staff - worked yesterday and through
the night at Cardiff’s General Election count.
From
opening and managing polling stations to the safe delivery of votes to count
centres; from counting votes to managing the media, council staff played a
key role in the running of the election in Wales’ capital city.
Cardiff
Council’s Chief Executive and the Returning Officer for Cardiff Council Paul
Orders said: “I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank the council’s
electoral services team who worked hard getting all the necessary arrangements
in place at such short notice, and to also thank everyone else who played their
part working on this election.
“You
all did a tremendous job with many putting in long hours. Our count teams
didn’t finish until the early hours of the morning. Everyone who worked the
election will be tired today, but they should be proud of their efforts.”
