Cardiff Music Board are seeking three new members to help develop and support the city's music scene.
Established in late 2019, Cardiff Music Board plays an important role in delivering Cardiff Council's music strategy and has been integral to bringing the 6Music Festival to Cardiff, the delivery of a series of industry sessions during Sŵn Festival, putting on a series of open air gigs at Cardiff Castle to support local independent venues during the pandemic, the launch of ‘Little Gigs' - a new music talent development project in Cardiff schools, securing new premises on Barrack Lane for popular independent bar and venue, Porters and the recent announcement of the Cardiff Music City Festival, which will take place this autumn.
The expertise and commitment of board members has been invaluable to support the music sector in challenging times and the call for new faces comes after some members extended their initial terms of membership, to provide continuity after the pandemic.
Chair of Cardiff Music Board, Cardiff Council Leader, Huw Thomas, said: "This is a really exciting time for music in Cardiff. With the pandemic behind us, the first Cardiff Music City Festival acts announced and our first ever full-time Music Officer employed, now is the perfect opportunity to get some fresh voices, some new ideas and experiences around the table, so that the Board can take the significant work it's already doing to support Cardiff's music sector to the next level."
The Board currently consists of eighteen members with extensive music sector experience, who support the delivery of Cardiff Council's music strategy which aims to put music at the heart of the city.
The Board are consulted on music-related planning applications, they are working with Live Nation to ensure the new arena in Cardiff Bay links with the city's grassroots music sector, have developed Cardiff ‘musician in residence' commissions, as well as open call opportunities for creative talent in the city and provide a key link between music professionals, the Council and other organisations with a role in the sector.
