Cardiff Council has backed the joint UK & Ireland UEFA EURO 2028 bid, jointly submitted today by theFootball Associations of Wales, England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and the Republic of Ireland.
"It's potentially a great opportunity to showcase Cardiff to the world, build on our reputation as an international events destination, and deliver economic benefits for the city and the wider region, and beyond that it would also leave a legacy of football for all, with expanded opportunitiesfor people in Cardiff to participate in sport and physical activity."
If successful, Cardiff matches would be hosted at the National Stadium of Wales, with other matches taking place in London, Manchester, Liverpool, Newcastle, Birmingham, Glasgow, Dublin and Belfast.
UEFA are expected to announce the winning bid in autumn 2023.
