Cardiff may be bathed in Christmas lights, but at 8pm tonight we'll be turning off the tree at Cardiff Castle, lights on the walls and on the Reindeer for an hour in solidarity with the people of Ukraine who will spend Christmas in darkness with many parts of the country without power.
The switch off aims to raise awareness of the humanitarian catastrophe the war in Ukraine has brought about, with more than 10 million people left without electricity heat and water as temperatures are set to fall to -20 degrees.
Cardiff joins London, Edinburgh, Liverpool, Paris, New York, Sydney, and many others across the globe taking part in the switch off. The hour of darkness is part of the #United25 fundraising drive for generators for hospitals across Ukraine.
