Big improvements to a small green space

People living in Cathays will soon be enjoying some big improvements to a small green space at the heart of the community.

Developed on the basis of public consultation, the works to improve Cogan Gardens will include a new play area, outdoor exercise equipment, a chess table and chairs, new bins, picnic and park benches, as well as new meadow planting.

The improvements are part of an ongoing £3.2 million programme of investment in parks and play areas across Cardiff.

Cabinet Member for Culture, Parks and Events, Cllr Jennifer Burke-Davies, said: "Parks should be for everyone and the designs for Cogan Gardens aim to accommodate as many age groups and abilities as possible, so that the whole community can enjoy the improvements."

The new play equipment will include a slide, see-saw, springers, an accessible basket swing, stepping logs and boulders, as well as music apparatus.

Designs for the park show all existing trees being retained, a new central lawn area, and new areas of planting and meadow at the perimeter of the site.

Due to the size of the park, the site will be closed for the duration of the works, which are set to begin in late January and are expected to be completed in the Spring.
