Sport Wales proposals to change the way in which community sport is governed in Cardiff will be discussed at the next meeting of Cardiff Council's Cabinet, when it considers recommendations made by the Economy & Culture Scrutiny committee's inquiry into Community Sport in Cardiff.

Covering Bridgend, Merthyr Tydfil, Rhondda Cynon Taf, the Vale of Glamorgan, and Cardiff, the proposed Central South Regional Sport Partnership would replace the existing ‘Sport Cardiff' joint venture between Cardiff Council and Cardiff Metropolitan University.

Draft structures and governance arrangements for the proposed partnerships are currently being developed via a working group of all affected Local Authorities, led and administered by ‘Sport Cardiff.'

Cabinet Member for Culture, Parks and Events, Cllr Jennifer Burke-Davies, said: "We're working closely with Sport Wales, and our regional partners, to ensure Cardiff's voice is heard as the proposals are developed further, and that the good progress already being made here to increase participation in sport continues in the future. This is an important issue, and I would like to thank the Economy & Culture committee for the work they have put into scrutinising the proposals."

The scrutiny report makes 6 recommendations related to the Council's engagement with the process for developing new proposals and, subject to approval when Cabinet meets on 28^thSeptember, 5 will be accepted and one partially accepted.
