Here is the latest update from Cardiff Council, covering: waste collections unchanged over festive break but council offer one-off collection of Christmas trees in January, public consultation on plans to develop the International Sports Village, Cardiff Commitment win a CAVC award, vaccination totals for Cardiff and Vale of Glamorgan; Cardiff's COVID-19 case and test numbers.

Cardiff's waste collections unchanged over festive break but council will offer one-off collection of Christmas trees in January

While there will be no changes to recycling and waste collection days over Christmas, Cardiff Council is arranging one-off collections of Christmas trees across the first two weeks of January.

Residents are asked to place their trees on street and not to cut them up or put them in the green wheelie bins or white reusable sacks. These one-off collections are for Christmas trees only, and no other garden waste will be collected as part of this service.

A Christmas tree drop-off zone will also be provided at Heath Park on January 8th and 9th between 10am and 4pm.

The Christmas tree kerbside collections from city wards will be on the following days:

January 4th: Fairwater, St Fagans, Ely and Caerau

January 5th: Grangetown, Canton and Riverside

January 6th: Butetown, Adamsdown, Splott and Plasnewydd

January 7th: Pontprennau, Pentwyn and Penylan

January 11th: Creigiau, Pentyrch, Radyr, Whitchurch and Heath West

January 12th: Llandaff, Llandaff North, Gabalfa, Cathays and Heath East

January 13th: Rumney, Llanrumney, Trowbridge and Old St Mellons

January 14th: Lisvane, Llanishen, Rhiwbina and Cyncoed

With the exception of bank holidays, the recycling centres at Bessemer Close and Lamby Way will remain open during the winter, so recycling and garden waste can also be brought to these facilities - https://www.cardiff.gov.uk/ENG/resident/Rubbish-and-recycling/garden-waste-collections/Pages/default.aspx

Have your say on the plans for Cardiff International Sports Village

A survey which invites members of the public to respond to the Cardiff International Sports Village (ISV) Masterplan, is now open.

The 6-week consultation seeks views on Cardiff Council's plans to develop the International Sports Village starting with the proposed delivery of a central cycling hub of modern, fit-for-purpose, complimentary sports facilities, including a velodrome, an off-road bike track and closed road circuit.

Residents and visitors are invited to answer a short survey which includes questions on:

  • The relocation of Maindy Cycle Track
  • additional facilities you would like to see in the International Sports Village
  • facilities you would like to see at the velodrome
  • which of the proposed new facilities of the new Sports Village you are likely to use
  • how you travel to the Sports Village and would travel to the proposed new facilities

Cardiff Commitment wins an Annual CAVC Award 2021

Cardiff Commitment has won the Business and Partner award at the Cardiff and Vale College (CAVC) Annual Awards 2021, after being selected by a panel of judges for their support as a partner.

The Annual Awards celebrate learner success and achievement from the previous academic year and recognise CAVC's business partners and their ongoing commitment to education and development.

Cardiff Commitment supports the vision that the public, private and third sectors will work in partnership, with schools and education providers, to connect children and young people to the vast range of opportunities available in the world of work.

The Cardiff Council team aims to give pupils the knowledge they need on where the jobs for the future will be, identifying the growth sectors across Cardiff and improving their skillset to prepare them for jobs of the future.

The judges felt that the relationship between the Cardiff and Vale College and The Cardiff Commitment has gone from strength to strength over recent years and wanted to recognise the role that Cardiff Commitment plays in supporting the college's learners.
