Roath Court Pub Demolition Order - Council statement

Following misleading headlines in the media about how permission is granted to demolish the former Roath Court pub on City Road, the council wants residents to know that the planning committee does not have the power to stop a private landowner demolishing their building. This is deemed as ‘permitted development' under planning legislation.

Attempts were made to list the building but Cadw decided that it had been ‘heavily altered' since it was first built and that it was not considered of sufficient national historic and/or architectural significance to merit listed building status.

The council has put together a planning Q&A which explains how planning works and the power the planning committee and the council has on planning matters. It's available to read here: /
