A £10,000 grant from the Kennel Club Charitable
Trust has been successfully secured, in addition to a £30,000 grant from
Battersea Dogs & Cats Home in London.
Cabinet Member for Environment, Cllr Michael
Michael, said: "Together, these two grants represent a huge boost to plans
to refurbish the Dogs Home so we can provide the dogs who find themselves in
our care the kind of comfortable, stress-free surroundings that will allow them
to thrive until we can find them a permanent home.
"With 64 dogs coming into the Home last
month alone, the fundraising efforts of Sam Warburton and everyone at the
Rescue Hotel are needed as much as ever, and we're grateful to everyone who has
generously donated so far."
Reverend Bill King, Chairman
of The Kennel Club Charitable Trust, said: "Helping organisations such asCardiff Dogs Home improve
their facilities for the important work they carry out with rescue dogs is at
the core of The Kennel Club Charitable Trust's work in making a difference for
dogs. We know how important it is for these dogs to have a safe environment and
are honoured to be able to help support such a valuable cause"
Margaret Hulme, Grants Manager at Battersea,
added: "We hope that this grant will help make a real difference to the
lives of animals. At Battersea we want to support rescues and shelters, not
only by awarding funding, but also by sharing the experiences and knowledge we
have gained as an animal welfare charity that has been rescuing and rehoming
animals for 160 years."
Cardiff Dogs Home currently looks after between
750-900 dogs every year, prior to reuniting them with their owners, or finding
them a new forever home. A new onsite vet practice also operates from the Dogs
Home, providing affordable neutering for dogs.
