Day trippers will be welcomed back to Flat Holm this Saturday, when the island re-opens to the public for the first time since the start of the pandemic.

After arriving by high speed RIB boat, visitors will be able to enjoy a three hour island escape, featuring a welcome talk from the warden; plenty of free time to explore Flat Holm's fascinating history and wildlife; and a visit to the Gull and Leek, Wales' most southerly pub.

Cabinet Member for Culture and Leisure, Councillor Peter Bradbury, said: "After more than a year without any visitors, this is more good news for Flat Holm following the recent announcement of National Lottery Heritage funding for our £1.1million‘Flat Holm: A Walk Through Time' project, which will see the island's historic buildings restored and its habitats improved for wildlife.

"I know the team are excited to be welcoming people back, and if you're looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the city for a few hours, there can't be many places better than this hidden jewel in the Bristol Channel."

A number of Covid-19 safety measures are in place to ensure that people can visit the island safely, including:

• Welcome talks from the Warden will take place outdoors.
• No guided tours will be available - self-guided tours only.
• No indoor shelter will be available.
• Male and female toilets, and hand sanitiser, will be available.
• The ‘Gull and Leek' pub will be open for one hour during visits, and numbers inside will be limited to one person/family at a time. Masks must be worn and hands sanitised upon entry. No hot drinks will be available, but sealed bottles, cans and chocolate/crisps/snacks will be available. Cash only. Drinks and snacks are to be consumed outside only.
• All rubbish must be taken home by visitors.
• Social distancing rules apply, and must be followed.
