Council statement: Surface water flooding

23/12/20

The Council is dealing with surface water flooding across the city. The rain has filled up the brooks and streams which are now higher than the outfalls.  This means the drains can’t empty and are consequently backing up. Our teams were out in advance of the forecasted weather clearing hotspots of leaves in areas where we know flooding puts properties at risk.  If anyone is concerned about water entering their property they should call C2C on 2087 2087.

Our teams are out now too doing everything they can to help. The weather forecast is dry later so the water will retreat.  If anyone sees a drain top clogged with debris and leaves they could remove it which will help the water escape into the drains.

Although there are some flood alerts we understand the risk of river flooding is low.  Information on river levels flood warnings and flood alerts can be viewed on the Natural Resources Wales website here
