Cardiff and Swansea Joint Statement - Ice Walk Attractions

Following updated public health advice received from the office of Wales' Chief Medical Officer over the weekend, it has been decided that the ice walk attractions, which were due to open in both Cardiff and Swansea city centres will remain closed to the public.

Both local authorities appreciate the disappointment this will create for residents and would like to apologise for any inconvenience this will cause. However, the safety of everyone during the pandemic remains our main concern and it's important we follow the latest scientific evidence. Anyone who has booked and paid for a slot on an ice walk will receive a full refund from the organisers. Customers do not need to do anything to activate the refund, it will be applied automatically. Please be aware that it could take up to 5 days to show in your account.

The food and drink elements are already open. It is anticipated that other aspects of the Christmas attractions will open in both cities over the next few days.

Primary School Applications

Applications for September 2021 primary school places opened on Monday 16 November 2020 and a new campaign has been launched to provide guidance to parents applying for a place.

Cardiff Council's School Admissions team have identified 7 tips to assist families by explaining how the admissions process works, the importance of using all preferences available to them and why they should apply on time.

Cabinet Member for Education, Employment and Skills, Cllr Sarah Merry said: "The application process for school places can feel complicated and it is important that families have a clear understanding of how best to apply for a place. By completing their application correctly and on time they will increase their chance of getting a place at their preferred school.

"Earlier this year, we launched a new admissions campaign to make the application process as simple and transparent as possible. Early indications for secondary applications, show that the guidance delivered through the campaign has helped families throughout Cardiff and the number applying on time has increased from last year.

"This is a positive step towards ensuring that every family in Cardiff has the knowledge, support and understanding so that they are not at a disadvantage when applying for a school place.
