The Dementia Friendly Cardiff website will be ‘one-stop shop’ of valuable information about services and support in the city to assist people living with dementia to live well in the capital.
Dementia Friendly Cardiff is a partnership between Cardiff Council, Alzheimer’s Society Cymru and Cardiff and Vale University Health Board, that over recent years has been working towards making Cardiff a more dementia-friendly community.
Developed in consultation with partners, businesses and those living with dementia and their families, the accessible website provides localised information on support available in the city from organisations such as Alzheimer’s Society Cymru, the Memory Clinic, Public Health Wales and Carers Wales as well as services such as the council’s Independent Living Services, Meals on Wheels and Telecare.
The site will also include details of dementia-friendly events, initially on digital platforms at this current time, but physical events at a later date when appropriate.
Cabinet
Member for Health, Social Care and Wellbeing, Cllr Susan Elsmore, said:
“Cardiff has been on a journey over recent years looking at how we can
deliver services that are dementia friendly, how our buildings can be more
accessible to people living with dementia, and how we can encourage partners
and local businesses to make the small changes that can mean a big difference
to someone living with dementia.
“There is expected to be 7,000 people in Cardiff living with dementia by 2025 and it is essential that the city is geared up not only to support them, but their families and carers. We are fully committed to this work, which forms a key part of our Capital Ambition for the city.
“The
Dementia-Friendly Cardiff website is our new shop window for all the
initiatives, organisations and services that can support people and their
families to get the best out of life following diagnosis. We hope that
everyone visiting the site finds it valuable.
“At a
time when we are facing continued uncertainties because of the pandemic,
when many people will be feeling isolated and anxious about leaving home, this
website will be an invaluable source of information to keep people connected
and well informed about dementia-friendly provision.”
To

and yellow lights – the colours of the Alzheimer’s Society Cymru’s Dementia
Friends Forget-me-not logo.
