Here is tonight's COVID-19 update from Cardiff Council, covering: one-off garden waste collections extended into June and the first week of July; support to minimise risk in care homes; our youth workers giving support and advice to young people and parents; and Cardiff Flying Start Health Team fundraise for Cwtch baby bank charity.

One-off garden waste collections have been extended into June and the first week of July

The one-off garden waste collections will continue into June and the first week of July, so that residents are able to dispose of their grass cuttings, small twigs and branches, leaves, and plant and flower cuttings.

These are the only waste types which should be put in your green wheelie bin or reusable bags.

Residents are being reminded that they should only put out garden waste for collection in their green wheelie bin or their reusable garden sacks.

Any additional garden waste, which is put in any other container, including plastic bags, will not be collected.

If incorrect items are placed in the green bin or the re-usable sacks, a pink sticker will be placed on the container to notify the resident that incorrect items have been put out for collection and the waste will not be collected.

• If your collection day is usually on a Monday, your garden waste will be collected on Saturday, June 6^th.
• If your collection day is usually on a Tuesday, your green garden waste will be collected Saturday June 13^th.
• If your collection day is usually on a Wednesday, your green garden waste will be collected Saturday June 20^th.
• If your collection day is usually on a Thursday, your green garden waste will be collected Saturday June 27^th.
• The last one-off collection will take place on July 4^thfor residents that usually have their waste collected on a Friday.

The following information shows when these additional collections will take place in each ward in the city.

Saturday June 6^th- Creigiau/St Fagans, Radyr/Morganstown, Fairwater; Pentyrch, Tongwynlais, Ely and Caerau

Saturday June 13^th- Canton, Llandaff North, Llandaff, Velindre, Butetown, Grangetown and Riverside

Saturday June 20^th- Cyncoed, Pentwyn, Plasnewydd, Gabalfa, Cathays and Penylan

Saturday June 27^th- Pontprennau/Old St Mellons, Trowbridge, Llanrumney, Adamsdown, Rumney and Splott

Saturday July 4^th- Rhiwbina, Llanishen, Lisvane, Heath and Whitchurch.

Support to minimise risk in care homes

Cardiff Council is in the process of working with care homes who have had no incidents of COVID-19, to provide a safe place for vulnerable people who are required to ‘quarantine' following a period in hospital, and cannot do this safely in their usual residence.

This will support implementation of Welsh Government guidance which states there should be a period of 14 days isolation for people who test negative when leaving hospital. After this period they will require a second negative test at the end of the quarantine period.

Cardiff youth workers give support and advice to youths, parents and youth workers across Wales

Youth Workers in Cardiff are playing a part in the ‘Ask a youth worker' project, which is a network of Youth Workers who are available to offer support and advice to young people, parents, volunteers and Youth Workers across Wales.

The EOTAS team (Education otherwise than at school) carried out a Consultation with 62 young people, volunteers and Youth Workers across Wales to have their say on ‘What is Youth Work' creating key words and themes that youth work encompasses.

Cardiff Youth Service are currently producing a series of Digital resources and qualifications as they develop a new 21^stcentury way of working, which includes the appointment of a Senior Youth Officer responsible for Digital youth work, production of  a series of  YouTube easy to follow and ‘How to' guides, google classroom and digital profiles of all the young people we have a responsibility for, working collaboratively in order to improve the digital deprivation and access to these resources for all young people.

Cardiff Flying Start Health Team Fundraise for Cwtch Baby Bank Charity

The Health Team at Cardiff Flying Start are #WorkingForCardiff to support vulnerable families with children aged between 0 - 3 years 11 months on a range of issues for both parents and children.

As well as this, the team at East Moors Road recently organised a charity power walk and run around the office building to fundraise for Cwtch Baby Bank, covering 26 miles between them.

Cwtch Baby Bank provide essential equipment, clothing, toys and toiletries for new-born to 24 months old babies via referrals from social care, health professionals and other relevant support agencies. All the donations received go directly to the people who need it in Cardiff and the surrounding area. 

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic the charity is no longer able to accept donations of clothes and equipment and are in urgent need of financial donations to keep going through this challenging time.
