Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update - 20th March, 2020

This latest update covers schools, the volunteering portal, and support for businesses.

Schools

Schools will be re-purposed from Monday. Given the unrelenting pressure on healthcare, the Council will in the first instance be focusing on key workers in the health and social care sectors, and the emergency services, those in receipt of free school meals, and vulnerable children.

The well-being of vulnerable children continues to be a priority, and the Council will ensure that all vulnerable children are identified and provided with appropriate supervision measures. Further support will also be available should any issue need to be escalated.

For the 12,000 children entitled to free school meals, and the children of key workers in schools, work is progressing to ensure that they will receive meals every weekday.

Further updates will be published shortly on www.cardiffnewsroom.co.uk and through the council's social media channels.

The Volunteering Portal - Together for Cardiff

Work to update the Volunteering Portal - Together for Cardiff is nearing completion. The new site will be going live soon, and this will be announced on www.cardiffnewsroom.co.uk and on the Council's social media channels.

Support for Business

The Council's Economic Development team is working with colleagues in Welsh Government, the Cardiff Capital Region and FOR Cardiff, to establish a response to the Coronavirus crisis. Currently business support schemes are being established by Business Wales and the Welsh Government and businesses are advised to keep up-to-date by visiting the Business Wales website.

Meanwhile the Council is working with the Cardiff Capital Region to identify what further support outside of the national schemes can be established, tailored to local and regional needs.
