Estyn Success for St David's Church in Wales Primary

St David's Church in Wales Primary School in Pentwyn has been rated ‘good' in all five categories looked at by Estyn, the Education Inspectorate for Wales.

During a recent visit, inspectors found that pupils ‘make good progress in developing their skills as they move through the school and that they behave very well, are polite, caring and respectful towards each other and adults.'

 

The report highlights that children have ‘positive attitudes to learning' and that ‘teaching is effective, lessons are stimulating and pupils apply themselves well to tasks.'

It goes onto say that ‘most pupils with special educational needs achieve well and nearly all pupils are attentive to their teachers and are eager to do well with most developing their personal and social skills to a high standard.

The visit drew attention to the clear vision and strong leadership promoted by the Headteacher and the valuable support from senior leaders and the school's governing body.  

 

Reflecting on the success, Headteacher Mrs Claire Cook said: "St David's CiW is a very special place where children and staff feel safe and valued. This is as a result of a very strong team who provide nurturing and challenging teaching, whilst at the same time providing learning experiences which promote our school's Christian ethos.

 

"The staff and Governing body are very pleased with our inspection report which recognises the children's values and their enthusiasm towards their learning.  I would like to publicly acknowledge the dedication of our staff, governors, parents and partners. I am very grateful to all for enriching the lives of our pupils and in doing so, strengthening the wider community.

 

"I am delighted with the latest inspection findings, however I am not complacent and the challenge now is to continue to strive towards excellent. I want every child who joins St David's to achieve their best. Staff in our school are committed to ensuring that every child has the highest quality teaching and learning and the learning experiences provided prepares our children for an ever changing world."

The Chair of Governors Lee Davies added; "The Governing Body is very proud of the progress made over the last 18 months. We would like to thank the staff for their sustained hard work and commitment in improving our school. We are also very grateful to the hard work and dedication of Mrs Cook, Head Teacher, who with her strong vision, resilience and dedication has helped shape our school to enable our children and staff to realise their potential."

 

Cabinet Member for Education, Employment and Skills said: "This is a fantastic result for St David's CiW Primary School and demonstrates the outstanding improvements that have been undertaken at the school in a significantly short space of time.

 

"This is down to the hard work, enthusiasm and dedication from the Head, staff and governors and I would like to congratulate them all on this success."
