Ysgol Gymraeg Treganna: ‘Exceptionally good quality of care, support and guidance' says Estyn

Ysgol Gymraeg Treganna in Canton has scored ‘excellent' in two of the five areas inspected by Estyn - the highest rating possible, and ‘good' in the other three categories looked at by the education inspectorate for Wales.

Following a recent inspection, the school has been described as a ‘caring and inclusive community that promotes pupils' Welshness and personal, emotional and social development very successfully.'

The report goes onto say that ‘provision is rich, based on pupils' ideas and provides effective opportunities for them to develop their creative skills, in addition to the ability to solve ‘real life' problems regularly.

The inspectors also noted that pupils who are members of the various children's committees and councils show maturity far beyond expectations when undertaking their responsibilities and that during their time at the school, most pupils make sound progress and achieve well. 

In addition it was found that the quality of care, support and guidance that is provided by staff is ‘exceptionally good and has a very positive effect on pupils' standards and wellbeing.'

They noted that the Headteacher and his team of leaders ‘provide clear guidance for the school's work, and share their vision successfully with others with members of the senior management team making ‘a valuable contribution to this by leading learning communities within the school and specific aspects of their work.'

Reflecting on the report, Headteacher Rhys Harries said:"I am delighted to see the dedication and hard work of my excellent staff recognised by Estyn. This report is a validation of their enthusiasm for, and continued dedication to; getting the best for all pupils, making immense investment their welfare and celebrating the diverse cultural wealth of our community."
