A Great Get Together at the Museum of Cardiff

A free family fun day is to be held this Saturday at the Museum of Cardiff (formerly the Cardiff Story Museum) - inspired by MP Jo Cox and her belief that we have more in common than that which divides us.

Craft activities, face painting, the chance to meet the museum team and learn about the work they've been doing to collect the sounds of Cardiff, plus music performances co-ordinated by the River project at South Riverside Community Development Centre, are just some of the fun events lined up as part of the Great Get Together on Saturday 22nd June.

The free fun day is on from 10am until 3pm and if the weather is sunny, activities will be held in St John's Churchyard Garden next door to the museum.

Face painting will take place from 11am - 1pm and the day's music, which will include classical Indian singing, Tabla drumming and the Kora, begin at 11.30am with a performance by the Oasis World Choir. The choir are based at Oasis Cardiff, a support centre for people with refugee and asylum seeker status.

Cabinet Member for Culture and Leisure at Cardiff Council, Cllr Peter Bradbury said: "This day is all about celebrating the diverse communities we have here in Cardiff. Jo Cox was right, we have so much in common and getting together and enjoying time with our families is one of those real universal pleasures."

Manager of the Museum of Cardiff, Victoria Rogers said: "Our Great Together event is a big family fun day - full of celebration, colour and life.  Cardiff is a city that has been created by lots of different communities living and working together, and we're using things that we all share - like music, and fun - to celebrate that sense of togetherness."

The Museum of Cardiff Great Get Together has been supported by Riverside Community Development Centre and Community Music Wales and is part of a UK-wide programme of events taking place in memory of Jo Cox MP, and her belief that we have more in common.
