Grangetown Primary School in Cardiff has been judged by Estyn as good, the second highest rating possible, across all five of the areas that the education inspectorate for Wales looks at. 

Following a visit earlier this year, Estyn inspectors found that staff at the primary school in Grangetown ‘know their pupils well, and nurture them to become confident, ethical citizens.'

The inspectors also reported that as a result of engaging lessons, ‘pupils enjoy their learning' and ‘work hard and behave well.'

The report goes onto say that ‘many pupils speak languages other than English at home, but most make rapid progress in learning English and quickly catch up with their peers.'

Inspectors also noted that pupils have a ‘strong awareness of equality, tolerance and respect for others'.

Estyn also recognised the how the current Headteacher, Mrs Sian Chase has‘quickly established a clear vision and team ethos among the staff.'

Giving her reaction to Estyn's findings, Mrs Chase said: "I am delighted with the outcome of the schools recent inspection, especially Estyn's recognition of the good quality classroom provision provided by staff which has resulted in our pupils achieving well.

"The dedication demonstrated by all the staff here at the school, the governors and parents l has gone towards ensuring our pupils enjoy learning and try hard, providing good ethos and vision for the future of the school."

Chair of Governors, Jeff Hobden said: "Governors are consistently struck by staff commitment, enthusiasm and care for the children. Staff readiness to develop their practice and work co-operatively in pursuit of consistency and improvement is impressive. This forms the basis of the school's continued capacity to improve even further.

"The Governing Body is delighted that the inspectors could see this for themselves, and the report is testimony to the hard work of staff, pupils and their families."

Deputy Leader of Cardiff Council and Cabinet Member for Education, Employment and Skills, Cllr Sarah Merry, said: "I am delighted that Estyn has recognised the good standards reached at the school which is a result of the hard work and dedication of everyone at the school.
