Cardiff Bus appoints non-executive directors

Two new non-executive directors have been appointed to the board of Cardiff Bus and will take up their roles this week.

Sian Davies and Linda Phillips were appointed to the board following a recruitment process carried out by Cardiff Council, the sole shareholder of Cardiff Bus which is run as an arms-length company.

The new directors have extensive management experience and will bring wide and impressive skill sets to the boardroom table including, transport logistics, strategic management, corporate finance and financial management.

Sian Davis has more than 20 years' experience in strategic management and policy development and worked as managing director of Vale of Glamorgan Council until her retirement in 2015.

Linda Philips, a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, has 30 years' experience in logistics who worked as a senior executive at Shell International Petroleum until her retirement in 2016. Linda is chair of the governance committee at Cardiff University and was recently appointed to the court of governors at Westminster University. She is also a trustee of the Parliamentary Advisory Council on Transport safety.

Cardiff Council's Cabinet member for Finance Modernisation and Performance, Cllr Chris Weaver, said: "I'm delighted to appoint Sian and Linda to the board as non-executive directors. Their skills and experience will really help Cardiff Bus build for the future. This is an important time for public transport across the UK. Journeys by bus fell by 90 million in 2017/18 across Great Britain. In Wales bus journeys dropped by 267,000.

"So there are problems which need to be addressed if we are going to get the public transport system the public want. We know how important buses are for residents and local economies and we are intent on protecting them where we can. To do that we need to know that Cardiff Bus has the best people at its disposal to make sure the correct decisions are being taken for the business. Linda and Sian are keen to get started and they will bring a fresh impetus to the company as we look to improve Cardiff Bus and ensure it is fit for the challenges ahead."
