Update on compost collections over the Christmas season


Green waste compost collections will be suspended between December 27 and January 6 in some wards across the city.

This is to allow the waste collection crews to concentrate on collecting the general waste, recycling and food waste which increases significantly over the Christmas season.

Compost collections will not take place in the following wards between the dates given below:

  • Butetown and Grangetown - from December 27 until January 22
  • Gabalfa and Cathays - from December 28 until January 23
  • Adamsdown and Splott - from December 29 until January 24
  • Whitchurch - from December 30 until January 25
  • Radyr, Pentyrch and Tongwynlais - from December 31 until January 28
  • Velindre, Llandaff and Llandaff North - from January 2 until January 29
  • Plasnewydd and Pentwyn - from January 3 until January 30
  • Pontprennau, Llanrumney and Old St Mellons - from January 4 until January 31
  • Llanishen - from January 5 until February 1 

Residents are able to bring any additional compost material to either Lamby Way or Bessemer Close Household Waste Recycling Centre.

Christmas trees are able to be cut up and placed in the green recycling bin or reusable sacks which will be collected on the next scheduled compost collection day. Alternatively Christmas trees can be brought to either of the Household Waste Recycling Centres.

The opening times for Lamby Way and Bessemer Close HWRC's over the Christmas season are:

  • December 22 - 9.30am until 6.00pm
  • December 23 - 9.30am until 6.00pm
  • December 24 - 9.30am until 4.00pm
  • December 25 - Closed
  • December 26 - Closed
  • December 27 - 9.30am until 6.00pm
  • December 28 - 9.30am until 6.00pm
  • December 29 - 9.30am until 6.00pm
  • December 30 - 9.30am until 6.00pm
  • December 31 - 9.30am until 6.00pm
  • January 1 - closed
  • January 2 - 9.30am until 6.00pm
