Learning for Work

This weekend sees the start of enrolment for free courses to help eligible people with the skills and knowledge they need to return to employment, training or further education.

The Council's Adult and Community Learning service runs free courses, funded by Welsh Government, at a number of locations across the city in a relaxed and sociable atmosphere where learners can make new friends, learn new skills and work towards a recognised qualification.

A number of enrolment events are taking place for people to sign up to these courses which include an introduction to counselling, computers for beginners, working with children, confidence building and so much more.

Anyone interested in a course can come along to Central Library Hub on Saturday, September 8 (10am- 1pm) to find out more about what's on offer and to enrol for this term.

Cabinet Member for Education, Employment and Skills, Cllr Sarah Merry, said: "Our Adult and Community Learning service's Learning for Work courses help people to take their first steps back into education and get on track to progress to further learning opportunities, training and employment.

"The courses can give people who have taken a break from work for whatever reason, the confidence and knowledge they need to help improve their chance of getting a job by refreshing their existing capabilities and assisting them to upskill.

Eligible individuals include those who not currently in education, training or employment and are in receipt of state benefits or support (excluding state retirement pension) and over-50s who are not in full-time employment and are seeking work. The team can help if learners have very few or no formal qualifications. Referrals from Third Sector organisations and charities supporting individuals back into education are also welcome.
