Due to the poor weather conditions, we would encourage people not to go out unless their journey is absolutely essential.

Whilst the Met Office Red Warning has passed, a Yellow Warning for ice is currently in place until 9am tomorrow (Saturday) morning, and snow is forecast to fall throughout the day.
 

Council crews have been working around the clock, battling heavy snow fall, freezing rain and frozen ground to try and keep the roads clear. 
 

Ploughing was carried out on principal ploughing routes between 1am and 4am. 
 

Despite this, motorists are facing extremely difficult driving conditions this morning and the transport network is severely compromised.
 

It is likely that public transport operators will be running reduced services today, so the advice is to check before travelling.
 

Our gritting and ploughing teams will be out again today, concentrating on principal strategic routes and key infrastructure, including the Heath Hospital.   

The council’s 4x4 fleet is supporting services to meet the needs of the most vulnerable.
