Enforcing banned turns in Cardiff

 

Motorists are being warned that two new banned turns are now being enforced in the city bringing the total of banned turns monitored by number-plate recognition cameras to 14.

The new cameras have been put in place on Churchill Way, with a no right turn for motorists onto North Edward Street and also on Colum Road, to stop those travelling towards the city centre turning right turn into Corbett Road.

Cabinet Member for Strategic Planning and Transport, Cllr Caro Wild, said: "Banned turns are in place for a number of reasons, including improving safety, to help the flow of traffic to ease congestion or to improve routes for buses in the city. These banned turns are not new, they have been in place for some time but we are now enforcing against those that continue to ignore the rules and in some cases are putting people's safety at risk."

The following banned turns are being enforced in Cardiff:

        In the city centre, if you are travelling along Churchill Way, there is a no right turn into North Edward Street

        In the city centre, from Canal Street, there is a no left turn into John Lewis car park (Hayes Bridge Road)

        In the city centre, if you are travelling down Westgate Street, there is a no left turn into Wood Street

        In the city centre, if you are coming down Lower St Mary Street, there is a no left turn into Mill Lane

       In Cathays, if you are leaving the city centre on North Road, there is a no right turn into College Road

       In Cathays, if you are travelling down Colum Road towards Park Place, there is a no right turn into Corbett Road

        In Plasnewydd, on Newport Road there is a banned U-turn adjacent to Wordsworth Avenue

        In Rumney, if you are coming out of New Road, there is a no right turn onto Newport Road

        In Adamsdown, if you are coming out of Piercefield Place, there is a no right turn onto Newport Road

        In Heath, if you are travelling along Smith Road, there is a no through route into Malvern Drive

        In Heath, if you are travelling on Birchgrove Road, there is a no left turn onto Manor Way

        In Grangetown, there is a no through route up Paget Street at the junction with Redlaver Street

        In Llanishen, if you are travelling on Crystal Glen, there is a no right turn onto Heathwood Road

        In Caerau, if you are travelling down Amroth Road, there is a no left turn into Cowbridge Road West.
