If you've always wondered how much the painting you inherited is now worth, or maybe that china vase you picked-up for a song at your local car-boot sale, then Cardiff Castle is the place to be next month!
That's because BBC One's primetime Sunday evening programmeAntiques Roadshowis being recorded at the castle on Wednesday 6 September.
The TV programme is celebrating its 40thanniversary this year and as always many of Britain's leading antiques and fine arts specialists will be on hand to offer free advice and valuations to visitors, who are invited to raid their attics and bring along their family heirlooms, household treasures and car-boot sale bargains for inspection by the experts.
Antiques Roadshowpresenter, Fiona Bruce said: "The best part of working on Antiques Roadshow is that we never know who or what is going to turn up on the day. The visitors, the objects they bring, their stories and the location all combine to make a fabulous experience that we aim to capture for the viewers. If you are a fan of Antiques Roadshow, curious to see behind the scenes, or just fancy a free day out, I would urge you to dig out your treasures and come along - we'd love to see you!"
Cabinet Member for Culture and Leisure, Cllr Peter Bradbury said: "It's great that such a prestigious TV programme as Antiques Roadshow has chosen Cardiff Castle as one of its locations for the 40thanniversary season. It's the perfect setting for a programme that has become a national institution and is watched by millions. I really hope that somebody from Cardiff has a nice surprise when they find out the true worth of something they've had tucked away in the attic."
Visitors are welcome to just turn up on the day, but if they have an item with a particularly unusual story attached, or perhaps an interesting collection, or large items of furniture, they are asked to let the programme know in advance via the Share Your Story link onwww.bbc.co.uk/antiquesroadshow
Antiques Roadshow Executive Editor, Simon Shaw said: "We are looking forward to coming to the magnificent castle in Cardiff on Wednesday 6 September. The setting and architecture of Cardiff Castle should provide one of the most impressive backdrops for Antiques Roadshow in recent years. Our team of experts and Fiona love nothing better than hearing people's stories and seeing what items they bring, so we hope as many people as possible come to Cardiff Castle and enjoy what our visitors consistently tell us is a fantastic day out. Even after 40 years, the magic formula of surprising some lucky guests with exciting news about their treasures is still a thrill for us, the visitors and the viewers."
