A free family fun day is to be held at The Cardiff Story Museum inspired by MP Jo Cox and her belief that we have more in common.
Craft activities, face painting, museum trails exploring Cardiff's community heritage and magical tales from storyteller Cath Little are just some of the fun events lined up as part of the Great Get Together on Saturday 17th June. The free fun day is on from 10am until 3pm and if the weather is sunny, activities will also be held in St John's Churchyard Garden next door to the museum.
Cabinet Member for Culture and Leisure at Cardiff Council, Cllr Peter Bradbury said: "The reason we're staging this fun day is to celebrate our diverse communities here in Cardiff and the fact that we have a lot in common as we get together and enjoy time with our families. Something I know that Jo Cox would approve of. One of the activities planned, which I personally think is a lovely idea, is the chance to learn how to say welcome in five different languages. A warm welcome is definitely guaranteed throughout the day and I encourage everybody to go along to the Cardiff Story Museum for a fun day out."
Manager of the Cardiff Story Museum, Victoria Rogers said: "Our event isa big family fun day - full of celebration, colour and life. Cardiff is a city that has been created by lots of different communities living and working together, and we're using things that we all share - like stories, music, food and fun - to celebrate that sense of togetherness. We're also hoping to be joined by some special guests during the day - the Great Big Walk walkers, who have been walking from Jo's constituency in Yorkshire all the way back to Wales over the last 21 days."
The Cardiff Story Museum Great Get Together is part of a UK-wide programme of events taking place in memory of Jo Cox MP, who was killed last year, and her belief that we have more in common.
