Springwood Primary School in Llanedeyrn is celebrating after education watchdog, Estyn rated the school as eitherExcellentorGoodin all the areas inspected - the top ratings possible. 

Estyn visited the school to see how it is performing in terms of: standards; wellbeing and attitudes to learning; teaching and learning experiences; care, support and guidance; and leadership and management. 

Its report recognised the school's care, support and guidance, describing the ethos throughout the school as 'exceptionally strong'. 

Headteacher of Springwood Primary School, Mrs Pat Hoffer, said: "There are so many parts in this report that I am proud of, but one of my favourite lines is Estyn's conclusion that 'a particular strength of the school is the way in which all pupils show a high level of kindness and consideration for each other.' It is a huge endorsement of the school's approach to inclusion. 

"The staff, parents, local community and, most of all, the children should feel a deep sense of pride when they read the report. Well done, team Springwood!" 

Inspectors praised the school's approach to inclusion, pointing to the impact made by its autism resource base and inclusion class. 

Deputy Leader of Cardiff Council and Cabinet Member for Education, Employment and Skills, Cllr Sarah Merry, praised the school, saying: "The Estyn report is tremendous recognition of the great work that everyone involved with Springwood has put in to ensuring that the children receive the standard of education they deserve. 

"Congratulations to Mrs Hoffer, her staff, the Governing Body, parents, and particularly the children, for creating such a kind, caring and supportive school, where everyone can succeed. 

"In recent years we have seen strong and sustained improvement in education in Cardiff, across all key stages. Springwood Primary School's Estyn report is further endorsement of the measures we have brought in over the last five or six years, working with schools to drive up standards significantly." 

Estyn found strengths throughout the school's teaching, learning and standards, concluding that pupils ‘make good progress' and ‘achieve well as they move through the school'. 

Chair of Governors, Cllr Joe Boyle, added: "We're proud of the findings from this report. It's reward for many years of hard work, putting in place a strong leadership team and focusing on developing the skills of our excellent teaching staff. 

"We are particularly happy with the finding that we are 'very successful in meeting pupils' emotional, health and social needs.' This is the most important role of any school: to help develop healthy, grounded and happy young people."
