Young pupil makes the cut for charity

Lois Driscoll from Gabalfa primary had her haircut at school today, in aid of the Little Princess Trust.

Five year old Lois donated her hair to the national charity, which provides real hair wigs, free of charge, to children and young adults who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment and illness.

After learning about the Little Princess Trust from a teaching assistant who had previously donated her hair, Lois said: "I am going to have my hair cut short to make a wig because I want to make a child with cancer happy."

As well as donating her hair, Lois is raising money for the Little Princess Trust. Set up by her dad, the JustGiving page - www.justgiving.com/fundraising/lois-driscoll  - has so far raised over £1,000.

Nick and Helen Driscoll, Lois' parents, said: "We were a little taken back when Lois told us that she wanted to have her hair cut, but then she explained why she wanted to do it and we were instantly filled with emotion and pride.

"It was her own decision, and something we wanted to give her 100% backing in. It's such a sweet thing to do and just sums up how loving and caring she is."

Gabalfa primary pupils and staff have also been helping Lois raise money, and they wore fancy dress on the day. Headteacher, Mrs Carrie Jenkins, said: "We are so very proud of Lois. As a school we raised £250 and we are thrilled to support such a compassionate little girl."
