Gabalfa Primary School pupil a cut above

A young girl from Gabalfa Primary School in Cardiff is showing her support for The Little Princess Trust by donating 12 inches of her own hair.

Five year old Lois Driscoll will be having her hair cut on Friday, February 16 and giving it to the national charity, which provides real hair wigs, free of charge, to children and young adults up to the age of 24, who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment and illness.

Lois, who learned about the Little Princess Trust from a teaching assistant who had previously donated her hair, said: "I am going to have my hair cut short to make a wig because I want to make a child with cancer happy."

As well as donating her hair, Lois is raising money for The Little Princess Trust. Set up by her dad, the JustGiving page -www.justgiving.com/fundraising/lois-driscoll- has so far raised almost £800.

Nick and Helen Driscoll, Lois' parents, said: "We were a little taken back when Lois told us that she wanted to have her hair cut, but then she explained why she wanted to do it and we were instantly filled with emotion and pride.

"It was her own decision, and something we wanted to give her 100% backing in. It's such a sweet thing to do and just sums up how loving and caring she is."

To help her to raise money, Gabalfa primary has asked pupils to either dress as a princess or superhero for the day on Friday, or come to school with a funky hairstyle.

Mrs Carrie Jenkins, Headteacher at Gabalfa Primary School, said: "We are so very proud of Lois. She has talked about doing this selfless act for a while and we are delighted to support her."
